Picking your picture editor
http://www.fashion.net/howto/fashionphotographer/

Photographer should know what the magazine does, and see how their work applies what the editors do and should know who the editor is called. Editors never really buy a image they see as they're looking for a photographer who can complete future commissions. To grab attention from an editor is to show their previous published work.

A photograph is a document like an article and picture editors that look for images have clear communication or emotion. For example a celebrity portrait should reveal phases of the subjects character that links with the written profile. If work speaks clearly then picture and photographer will stand out and a chance with picture editors. There's an over-supply of photographer that magazines take advantage. some magazines have a descent budget, but a lot of magazines just cover expenses and don't pay time.

When submitting work to picture editors by calling up the magazine  to get name of person who's submission should be marked such as labeling photographers name and telephone number and stamped self-address envelope if wanting work back. Some clients take advantage that there are loads of photographer out there and make them pay for whole shoot, they alter pictures but don't tell photographer when they have dropped the story so they disrespectful toward the photographer.
